WHEN spoken of, it sounds like folklore, but only that it is not.
Her age has not deterred her from achieving her goals.
At 21, Karen Mhanda, an author and mental health therapist, looks set to release her sixth book.
The highly anticipated book, titled To the Guy Soon to Be a Father 2, will be released on November 29 at The Roasted Bean in Eastlea, Harare.
Mhanda draws from her own experiences and observations to craft a relatable and thought-provoking guide for expectant fathers, new fathers, and the youth.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, she said: “I was inspired by reality, the struggles of young people in our surroundings.
“This book is a continuation of the first version which was released last year and it addresses the specific concerns, joys, and challenges of parenthood, encouraging emotional intelligence and vulnerability.
“This powerful narrative delves into the complexities of teen pregnancy, motherhood, relationships, drug abuse, academics and mental health, sparking vital conversations around societal expectations and stereotypes.”

The book launch serves as an advocacy platform, engaging media houses, school clubs, and organisations focused on youth empowerment, sexual health and mental wellness.
“The aim is to inspire a movement, encourage open discussions around sensitive topics and promote positive change,” Mhanda said.
Through her book, Mhanda sheds light on the often-overlooked struggles of young mothers, particularly those facing neglect and abandonment from their child’s father.
The narrative follows Mitchell, a determined single parent navigating the complex custody situation and her own journey to open her heart to love again.
Mhanda’s remarkable journey as an author began at a young age.
With six published books to her name, she has established herself as a rising star in Zimbabwe’s literary scene.
Currently pursuing a degree in Journalism and Media Studies at the National University of Science and Technology, Mhanda embodies the spirit of determination and creativity.
The book launch promises to be an unforgettable event, featuring interactive sessions, panel discussions and performances.
Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of the book and participate in a question-and-answer session.
“To the Guy Soon to Be a Father 2 is more than just a book, it’s a call to action,” Mhanda told NewsDay Life & Style.
“I urge my readers to re-evaluate societal norms and expectations surrounding fatherhood, men should embrace their emotions and take an active role in parenting.”
