“ZimTrade will conduct an outward seller mission to Blantyre, Malawi, from 13-15 May 2025. The mission will include a business forum on trade opportunities, scheduled B2B meetings, a trade exhibition, and company and factory tours,” ZimTrade said in its recent newsletter.
“These activities aim to facilitate business networking and provide insights into local market operations. Participating in this trade mission allows Zimbabwean companies to expand their export market in Malawi, establish business partnerships, and gain insights into market dynamics and consumer preferences.”
The initiative is part of efforts to enhance Zimbabwe’s exports to Malawi, following similar missions held in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
“The trade mission provides a platform for Zimbabwean companies to showcase their products to potential buyers, understand market trends and consumer buying behaviour in Malawi and establish business connections and partnerships,” the investment promotion body said.
“The participating companies for this trade mission will be drawn from companies under the sectors such as agricultural inputs and implements, fast-moving consumer goods, building and construction, household and office furniture, packaging and personal protective equipment.”
The proposed trip comes as according to Trade Map, Zimbabwe’s exports to Malawi more than doubled from US$11,1 million in 2022 to US$27,4 million in 2023.

“The main products exported to Malawi in 2023 from Zimbabwe were paper, mineral fuels and oils, electrical machinery and ceramics. Imports from Malawi increased from US$50,1 million in 2022 to US$51,1 million in 2023,” ZimTrade said.
“The main products imported were arts and crafts, tobacco and wood. Zimbabwe and Malawi have a long-standing trade relationship, with a Preferential Bilateral Trade Agreement signed in 1995.”
Both countries are members of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa and the Southern African Development Community.
“This provides opportunities for duty-free and quota-free trade between the two nations. Malawi offers a homogeneous market with similar consumer preferences and buying habits to Zimbabwe,” ZimTrade said.
“The country’s proximity to Zimbabwe reduces logistics costs, making Zimbabwean products more competitive.”
