THE Health and Child Care ministry has moved the polio vaccination dates to next month due to the late arrival of vaccines.
This was revealed in a letter addressed to provincial medical directors recently by Health and Child Care secretary Aspect Maunganidze.
“All provincial medical directors Masvingo, Mashonaland Central, Manicaland province, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Midlands, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Harare metropolitan, city health directors — Harare, Bulawayo and Chitungwiza City are being notified of the change of dates for the upcoming nOPV2 fourth round vaccination campaign to 4th of February 2025,” letter read.
“This note serves to inform you that implementation dates for the fourth (4th) round of Polio (nOPV2) vaccination campaign have been moved from the previously communicated dates (14-17 January 2024) to 04-07 February 2025.”
Maunganidze said the dates had been adjusted following notification that nOPV2 vaccines would arrive in the country on January 13 this year, adding that adequate time would be required for distribution of the vaccines and related supplies at all levels.
He said the delay had affected the programme.
“In addition, the school calendar commences on the 14th of January 2025, which interferes with the earlier scheduled vaccination dates,” Maunganidze said.
He said the rest of the campaign implementation modalities remained as communicated earlier and the target population remained zero to below 10 years.
