The company’s local managing director, Keith Smith, said the truck had proven popular among Zimbabwean motorists.
“Two categories have stood out in terms of sales thus far: the SUV range and the 1,3-tonne truck. The SUVs, including the iconic Sportage and the bold Sorento, have contributed some 26% of sales, whereas the K2700 truck has proved very popular with over 44% of sales from that sector,” Smith said.
“However the company reports a number of enquiries for vehicles across the board and expect to realise more firm orders for the sporty Rio, the unique Soul, the diminutive Picanto and the stylish Cerato soon.”
The K2700 truck was part of a new line of vehicles that consisted of the Cerato, Kia Rio, Picanto, Sorento, Soul and the Sportage which came into the country as part of a $1 million shipment when the vehicles were launched back in June.
Since the brand was launched earlier this year, the market reaction to the vehicles has increased with an increase in queries on a month on month basis, with a number of units being sold from June to date.

“Based on the enquiries received and the reaction to the brand, a bright future for Kia in Zimbabwe is forecast and they look forward to an exciting 2016, despite the challenges in the market at present. At last Zimbabweans have access to a luxurious range of vehicles at a reasonable price,” Smith said.
The month on month interest in vehicles, led KIA Motors to move into its own facility that it used to share Auto body centre, which is part of Croco Motors Zimbabwe.
Kia Motors Corporation was founded in 1944 and is South Korea’s oldest manufacturer of motor vehicles, with over 2,7 million Kia vehicles being produced a year in 10 manufacturing and assembly operations in five countries.
