The six foreign firms with local interests to participate at the conference are the United Kingdom-based miner Ariana Resources Plc, Caledonia Mining (Jersey), Kavango Resources (United Kingdom), Mopani Gold (Mauritius), Prospect Resources (Australia) and Namib Minerals (United States of America).

AT least six foreign miners with operations in Zimbabwe will participate at the annual 121 Mining Investment Cape Town conference in South Africa, one of that country’s largest investor conference for miners seeking capital.

The conference runs from February 3 to 4 and is hosted by the Hong Kong-based and mining-focused events firm, the 121 Group.

“121 Mining Investment Cape Town — the largest dedicated mining investment event in South Africa — returns on February 3 to 4 2025, with mining companies and investors joining us for private 1-2-1 meetings,” the conference organisers said in a statement.

“Alongside the curated schedule of pre-booked meetings matching investors with appropriate projects, our conference programme will provide expert commentary and the latest market intelligence on key industry developments.”

The organisers said the event will attract leading analysts sharing in-depth commodity-specific market outlooks and top fund managers.

The indaba, the organisers said, connects portfolio managers and analysts from institutional funds, private equity groups and family offices with mining company management teams for 1-2-1, private in-person meetings.

“The event is built around two-days of 1-2-1 meetings matching projects to investment capital, alongside a conference programme packed with market intelligence and investment ideas,” the organisers said.

“Participation is limited to investment professionals and mining executives. Whether you are an investor looking for exciting new projects, or a mining company hoping to raise capital and make new connections, 121 Mining Investment is the premier forum to make it happen.”

The participation of foreign miners at the  conference comes at a time when they are seeking huge capital to grow operations locally.

One such miner is Ariana Resources Plc, which requires capital of US$80 million to develop its Dokwe Gold Project, located in the Tsholotsho District, 110 kilometres west and northwest of Bulawayo.

“Ariana Resources plc, the AIM-listed mineral exploration and development company with gold mining interests in Africa and Europe, is pleased to announce that it will be attending the 121 Mining Investment Conference in Cape Town to engage with existing and prospective investors,” Ariana said.

Over the past few years, foreign-owned investors have increasingly shown interest in mining operations in Zimbabwe, targeting  gold or lithium.

According to the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency, during the fourth quarter of last year, 91 new mining licences were issued valued at US$592,42 million.
