Legacy Car Rentals says it plans to set up operations in Zambia as part of its regional expansion drive.
The three-year-old firm says the expansion into Zambia and South Africa will be done in the next three years.
Legacy managing director Pauline Dondo said the decision to expand regionally was driven by the company’s success in Zimbabwe and the demand for car rental services in neighbouring countries.
“Beside expanding locally, we want to expand regional, and we want to start with Zambia first and South Africa in the next three years,” Dondo said.
“We have surveyed the market and Zambia has potential. We have two managers who once worked there, and the environment is just the same as here. It’s a friendly environment, but there is this demand on vehicles [car rentals]. There are a lot of NGOs [non-governmental organisations] there and even individuals.”
She said the request for more vehicle hires was increasing in Zambia.
Legacy began operations in 2021 and has grown into one of the leading car rental services locally.
“Three years feels like five or more because of experience. We have increased our fleet and staff and we are happy. The journey is not easy, but we are happy we are here,” Dondo said.
