Zinara introduces hi-tech equipment
NewsDay Staff ·
The Zimbabwe National Road Authority (Zinara) has introduced a new state-of-the-art vehicle as well as licensing enforcement equipment to assist police in detecting vehicles with fake licence discs as well as those that have not been licensed at all.
The vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz van which houses a computer that connects to video camera equipment which reads vehicle registration plates and processes the information to determine whether or not the vehicle has been registered.
Speaking at the handover of the equipment by Transport minister Nicholas Goche to police in Harare yesterday, Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri said the computerised vehicle would go a long way in assisting traffic police in carrying out their duties.
