Zim plots lithium industrial take-off after China mission

ZIMBABWE is positioning itself to move beyond lithium mining and build a broader industrial value chain after a government delegation returned from China with insights into battery materials, processing technologies and downstream manufacturing.

The two-week fact-finding mission, led by Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development Fred Moyo, exposed Zimbabwean officials to China’s sophisticated lithium and new-energy industries as Harare seeks to translate its mineral resources into greater domestic industrial value.

The delegation travelled to China from September 13 to 26, visiting industrial centres including Shanghai, Jiaxing, Quzhou, Xinyu, Nanchang, Chongqing, Suining, Ya’an and Chengdu, where it held technical visits, industrial inspections and business engagements.
