‘Zim media liberal, portrays Mugabe, Grace negatively’

A SENIOR Information ministry official has claimed Zimbabwe’s media was liberal to the extent that President Robert Mugabe and First Lady Grace Mugabe are always lampooned and portrayed negatively.

Director of Urban Communications, Retired Major Anywhere Mutambudzi said this while addressing journalists at a United Nations workshop on developmental reporting in Masvingo, where he said “detractors from certain quarters” had spread outcries that there was no Press freedom in the country.

He said Grace was often portrayed in “bad terms”, while Mugabe was portrayed in the “most negative terms” by the media.
