WestProp bets on smart cities to ease housing crisis

As Zimbabwe marks World Habitat Day today, property developer WestProp Holdings is betting that four planned mixed-use cities can help reduce the country’s 1,5 million-unit housing backlog.

The company says Pomona City, Chivhu Eco City, Millennium City and Swanville City could together provide tens of thousands of housing units, in communities where residents can live, work, shop and relax close to home.

The pitch comes as half of Zimbabwe’s population is projected to be living in urban areas by 2030, according to the United Nations, putting growing pressure on housing, infrastructure and basic services.
