Spurned suitor in rape attempt

CHINHOYI — A lustful 24-year-old Chikuti man, who proposed love to a bar attendant and was turned down, later tried to rape her after she went outside the bar to pick up some items, a magistrate has heard.

The accused Ngonidzaishe Mupingo of Sherry Claim Compound, Chikuti in Chinhoyi, was on Tuesday sentenced to an effective two-year jail term when he appeared before magistrate Ignatius Mugova.

The court heard that on December 10 at Kufaingano Bar, the 24-year-old complainant (name withheld) was at work when she was approached by the accused’s friend identified as Minzi, who informed her that the accused was proposing love to her, but she spurned the advances.
