Soldier whips woman over dog

GWERU — A warrant officer at Thornhill Airbase in Gweru has been fined $200 for beating up a Mvuma woman following a misunderstanding over a missing dog.

George Ndiriishe Mhangami (54) was convicted on his own plea of guilty to the charge when he appeared before Gweru magistrate Jeslene Mashiri.

Initially, Mashiri slapped him with a six-month jail term but then suspended it on condition he paid $200 fine, failing which he would be jailed for an effective three months.
