Soccer star commits suicide

NewsDay Staff ·

Former Caps United defender Carrington (Silent) “Taribo West” Katumba (31) died on Monday night after apparently hanging himself, four years after attempting to kill himself allegedly over domestic issues with his wife Rumbidzai Matanda.

Katumba attempted to end his life in 2007 by taking rat poison over what he referred to as “serious family problems” barely a week after he had returned from the United Kingdom.

Katumba was one of the six “fugitive” CAPS United players who disappeared in the UK at the end of a controversial challenge match against arch-rivals Highlanders in 2005.
