Sharp rise in palm fatty acids prices spurs detergents, soap prices

Victoria Mtomba ·

The increase in the prices of palm fatty acid (PFAD) has led to a rise in the prices of detergents and soaps.

PFAD is a major raw material in the soap business and it is now priced at $950 per tonne when it used to be at $600 due to increases in international commodity prices.

United Refineries Ltd (URL) chief executive officer, Busisa Moyo told NewsDay that the increases in prices in detergents, that include soap, had been due to the rise in prices of PFAD a major raw material.
