Residents threaten to sue council over water bills

GWANDA residents have threatened to take the local authority to court over exorbitant and dubious water bills, most of which are based on estimates.

In a letter dated July 21 addressed to the municipality, Gwanda Residents’ Association (GRA) secretary-general Bekezela Maduma Fuzwayo urged council to urgently revise its billing system and stop penalising residents over estimated bills.

“The association continues to stand by the previously expressed stance that council has to, as a matter of urgency, visit their billing and bring an end to the culture of estimating water charges for nearly the entire town,” he said.
