Reform SPB to take graft head on
NewsDay Staff ·
REPORTS that the State Procurement Board (SPB) has sent its principal officer Cledwyn Nyanhete on forced leave hardly six months after former SPB executive chairman Charles Kuwaza was ejected, in a painstaking bid to root out corruption at the board that is responsible for awarding all government tenders, must be hailed as a step in the right direction.
Not that Nyanhete, who was forced out to facilitate internal investigations and audits by the Office of the President and Cabinet following a board meeting on Tuesday, is guilty as charged, but simply to bring sanity in the way State tenders are being handled. Nyanhete should be presumed innocent until proven guilty, no doubt.
