Policy breakthrough for breastfeeding civil servants

BREASTFEEDING civil servants can now travel with their babies and a minder on approved official trips within Zimbabwe, following a new Public Service Commission (PSC) policy aimed at making government workplaces more family-friendly.

The policy, which took effect on October 23 this year, allows eligible public servants with children up to two years old to travel with their babies and a minder, with the relevant ministry covering the minder’s transport, meals, and accommodation costs.

The Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) commended the PSC for responding positively to its advisory, describing breastfeeding mothers’ workplace challenges as “an urgent gender equality concern requiring attention”.
