Murambatsvina returns to haunt govt
NewsDay Staff ·
Bulawayo City Council says it has no money to service government’s Hlalani Kuhle/Garikai houses built outside the city’s plan in Cowdray Park soon after its disastrous Murambatsvina demolitions in 2005.
The government recently resolved to hand over all the hurriedly-built houses to local authorities to ensure the inhabitants got water and reticulation services.
The houses, built in all the country’s major cities and towns, remained without water and sewer connections, after local authorities distanced themselves from the scheme, because it was not on their master plans.
