Mpofu, widow in messy row
NewsDay Staff ·
A bid by Mines minister Obert Mpofu to recover rental arrears from a Bulawayo businessman by confiscating the truck of a deceased man, Themba Sibanda, has landed him in court after Sibanda’s widow Sharlone Shenje approached the High Court to force the Zanu PF heavyweight to release the vehicle.
In an urgent chamber application submitted at the High Court yesterday, Shenje claims Mpofu has been holding on to her late husband’s Hino Dolphin truck without her consent since 2009.
She said several attempts to recover the truck had failed as police tasked by the courts to repossess the vehicle seemed afraid of the minister.
