THE Midlands province recorded a massive decrease in sexually-transmitted infections (STIs)this year, as the populace heeded health awareness campaigns launched by various stakeholders, a top government official has said.
Provincial maternal and child health officer in the Ministry of Health, Tshebukani Moyo, recently told journalists that new infection figures had dropped from 23 000 last year to 15 000 this year.
“In 2013, we recorded about 28 000 STI cases, which decreased to about 23 000 in 2015 and this year we recorded 15 000 cases between January and September,” Moyo said, adding there was still need to intensify STI campaigns in known hot spots to avoid new infections.
