Mayor fumes

Suspended Gwanda mayor Lionel De Necker has stirred a hornet’s nest after he condemned the Urban Councils’ Association of Zimbabwe (UCAZ) as being an extension of the Local Government, Rural and Urban Development minister Ignatius Chombo’s office.

De Necker told NewsDay yesterday that the UCAZ leadership was unconstitutional as elections had been deferred until the country’s next presidential elections.

Last week, at the 70th annual general meeting (AGM) held in Masvingo, the UCAZ executive was given yet another mandate to run the affairs of the association.
