Marange diamonds under spotlight

THE mining of diamonds in Marange, Manicaland province, has again hogged the limelight at the on-going Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) meeting in Victoria Falls.

The community in the diamond-rich area claim not to have benefited from the precious minerals as they accused chief executive officer of Chiadzwa Community Ownership Trust (CCOT), Hardwork Mukwada, of misrepresenting their concerns at the meeting.

Diamonds were discovered in Marange in June 2006, but there were human rights violations after the State deployed the army to flush out illegal miners.
