Mandatory vaccination remains illegal: Experts
Lorraine Muromo ·
LEGAL experts yesterday said the move by government to extend the deadline for civil servants to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or face expulsion was unconstitutional.
This follows promulgation of Statutory Instrument 234 of 2021 last month, which stipulated that all unvaccinated civil servants will be barred from reporting for
duty.
Government, however, on Monday made a U-turn with Public Service minister Paul Mavima announcing that the unvaccinated civil servants would be given up to end of December to get the COVID-19 jab, while those who, without plausible reasons, refuse to get inoculated, would be fired.
