Kings accept payoff to delay Super Rugby entry
NewsDay Staff ·

CAPE TOWN — The Southern Kings have reportedly accepted a R40m (£3,1m) payoff from the South African Rugby Union (SARU) to delay their entry into the Super Rugby competition until 2016.
According to the Weekend Argus, officials at the Kings have confirmed that the Eastern Cape franchise will not join the Super Rugby competition next year as widely expected.
It is understood that they have been persuaded to wait a further three years by which stage a new broadcast rights deal will have been brokered that SARU hope would allow an expansion of the existing competition and remove the need for one of the existing South African sides to make way for the Kings.
