Jiri son acquitted

THE late philanthropist Jairosi Jiri’s son, Patrick (57), who has been languishing in remand prison for the past four months for allegedly indecently assaulting his younger brother’s 12-year-old stepdaughter, yesterday heaved a sigh of relief after he was exonerated by the court.Report by Richard Muponde, Senior Court Reporter

Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa found Jiri not guilty and acquitted him after she ruled that the State had failed to prove a case against him and the evidence was full of contradictions and inconsistences.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charges when the trial started three weeks ago.
