Harare needs US$2.7m monthly for water chemicals

Harare City Council (HCC) requires up to US$2.7 million every month to procure water treatment chemicals amid low revenue collection, with the local authority warning that financial constraints continue to put pressure on essential service delivery.

The city’s average revenue collection efficiency stood at 58 percent as at September 30, 2026, a level the council says is inadequate to meet its operational and service delivery requirements.
