Harare moves to own power generation as electricity takes 56% of water production costs
Kenneth Nyangani ·

Harare City Council (HCC) is grappling with electricity costs that now account for 56 percent of water production costs, as it moves to resuscitate the redundant Harare Thermal Power Station to generate dedicated, cheaper power for water and sewer operations.
The figure was contained in a report by consultant engineer Kumbirai Kashangura, presented at a review workshop in the capital at the weekend.
Acting Harare town clerk Warren Sean Chiwawa, who led management at the review, said the team had taken ownership of the findings and was reworking the plan into a practical, implementation-ready strategy to permanently cut energy costs.
