Govt warns errant diamond mining firms

Mines and Mineral Development deputy minister Fred Moyo yesterday promised to crack the whip on errant mining companies in Marange, for allegedly causing various difficulties within surrounding communities.

Moyo made the remarks while responding to grievances raised by people from different mining communities, who were attending a two-day alternative mining indaba in Bulawayo.

Villagers from Chiadzwa claimed the mining companies had caused them untold suffering by polluting the main rivers, harassment by security details, lack of social corporate responsibility and shortages of school facilities among other problems.
