Govt pays ZWL$1bn for undelivered goods
NewsDay Staff ·

FORMER Auditor-General Mildred Chiri has revealed that government ministries spent up to ZWL$1 billion in 2021 paying for goods that were never
delivered.
In her Appropriation Accounts and Fund Accounts in Arrears report tabled before Parliament last Wednesday, Chiri said some goods had not been delivered nearly two years after the payment date.
The report reveals that the Women Affairs ministry bought 25 motor vehicles at a cost of ZWL$109 630 000 on August 18, 2021, but seven months from the expected date of delivery, four vehicles worth ZWL$14 600 000 had not been delivered.
