Family wires suspect to welding machine

NewsDay Staff ·

A Dzivarasekwa man escaped death by a whisker after live electrical cables connected to a welding machine were allegedly wired to his body by a Budiriro family in a bid to extract a confession from him.

David Banga (41) was allegedly tortured by five family members who allegedly assaulted, tortured him with candles and subjected him to electric shocks after suspecting him of stealing a television set.

As a result of the assault, Banga is said to have passed out and was rushed to Harare Hospital where he regained consciousness and was detained for three days.
