End of road for Mahachi

SUSPENDED Harare town clerk Tendai Mahachi’s reign at Town House officially ended on Thursday after a special council meeting endorsed the termination of his contract using the recently gazetted Labour Amendment Act.

After weeks of speculation and anxiety over the matter, a special council meeting to deal with the Mahachi issue was convened last night, where councillors endorsed the human resources committee’s proposal to terminate his contract.

Committee chairperson Wellington Chikombo read out the recommendations made by his committee on August 25 to terminate Mahachi’s contract and councillors from both Zanu PF and MDC-T unanimously agreed to end his eight-year stint at Town House, which was punctuated by mistrust and suspicion.
