Court throws pensioner into the gutter

A HARARE High Court judge this week literally threw a pensioner into the gutter after he challenged a controversial government exchange control directive that caused him to lose his US$179 000 savings following a switch to Zimbabwe dollars.

Following a 2018 Exchange Control Directive RT120/2018, pensioner Duncan Hugh Cocksedge lost more than US$179 000 which was in his CABS Bank account.

A distraught Cocksedge then approached the High Court seeking reprieve, but his application was thrown out by High Court judge Justice Webster Chinamhora, who ruled that it was not the duty of the courts to change political decisions.
