ConCourt reserves judgment in CAA3 challenge
Desmond Chingarande ·

The Constitutional Court (ConCourt) has reserved judgment in a case brought by two war veterans who were challenging the Constitutional Amendment Act Number 3, arguing the amendment was illegally enacted.
Eliphas Kawa and Hazvineyi Machingura are challenging the Act, which, among other changes, extends presidential and parliamentary terms from five to seven years, and gives Parliament the sole mandate to elect the President.
The applicants, represented by Tendai Biti and Lewis Uriri, argue that the changes raise fundamental constitutional questions, particularly regarding citizens’ voting rights, the source of public authority and the country’s electoral framework.
