Garikai Mafirakureva ·
Over 20 girls between the age of 12 and 15 years are giving birth at Chikombedzi Mission Hospital every month, with the youngest being a 12-year-old girl, who bore twins in 2015. Chikombedzi records over 150 deliveries per month of which over a tenth of them are girls below 18 years of age as child marriages in the area go unabated.
This was revealed by Ellen Chirozva, the nurse-in-charge of the hospital’s maternity department during a tour of the institution by Chiredzi South MP, Kalisto Gwanetsa, Chiredzi Rural District Council chief executive officer Isaac Matsilele, the acting district medical officer David Tarumbwa and other officials from various sectors.
