2016 year of national resistance: Linda Masarira
Silas Nkala ·

PROMINENT human rights activist Linda Masarira has said 2016 would be best remembered as one year when the majority of Zimbabweans defied all odds and confronted the Zanu PF regime head-on as they sought to reclaim their rights through a series of anti-government protests incited by social media platforms.
Masarira, who spent over 80 days in remand prison for leading some of the demonstrations, said the spontaneous protest marches shook President Robert Mugabe’s government, forcing it to resort to brute force to quell the uprisings.
“It is a year when we defied this deeply entrenched dictatorship in protest against unemployment, rampant corruption, malgovernance, no access to basic social services like health care, education, and no social welfare for the disabled,” she said.
