AN unbeaten 80 by opener Ben McKinney was enough to propel visiting English countryside Durham to a 7-wicket victory in the second three-day match and complete a 2–0 series whitewash over Zimbabwe A at Takashinga Cricket Club yesterday.

Durham won the series opener by a massive 347 runs in a match which was played at Harare Sports Club last week.

This time around, Zimbabwe A used a largely different squad with the exception of captain Dion Myers and opener Takudzwanashe Kaitano, but Durham’s bowling fire power was too strong for the hosts.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first in this match, which started on Tuesday, and managed to restrict Zimbabwe A to 151 all out, with Tafadzwa Tsiga topscoring with an unbeaten 64, while all-rounder George Drissell retained impressive figures of 4/54 with the ball for Durham.

James Minto also took three wickets, while Paul Coughlin bagged two.

Drissell, who was voted man of the match, went on to score 82 runs with the bat as Durham put 185 runs on the board to take a 34-run lead after Blessing Muzarabani claimed four wickets for 39 runs, with Kundai Mutigimu claiming three.

In the second innings, Tsiga was the top scorer again with 76 runs, while Matthew Welch was the only other Zimbabwean to score a half century after a steady 69 runs to help the team to a 199 total and set Durham a target of 166 to win.

Durham needed 31.2 overs to wrap up the victory, with a whole session to spare.

They finished on 166 for 3 with Richard Ngarava, Matigimum and Wallace Mubayiwa among the wicket takers.
