THE Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has announced the start of rehabilitation work at the Zifa Village.
Late last year, the football body, led by the Normalisation Committee headed by Lincoln Mutasa, made known its intention to spruce up the facility to international standards through a tender advertisment.
The intention is to construct a technical centre, a dormitory, changing rooms and other outdoor works for use by the national teams and the association.
Yesterday, Zifa released a statement announcing the commencement of work at the Zifa Village.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association is delighted to announce the commencement of the rehabilitation of the Zifa Village, a key milestone in the association’s commitment to enhancing football infrastructure in Zimbabwe,” Zifa said.
“The project, funded under the Fifa Forward Programme, begins with Phase I, which will focus on the refurbishment of the boarding house and the transformation of the technical centre into a modern office block and conference room.

“This phase is set to significantly improve the functionality of the Zifa Village by addressing the accommodation challenges faced by national teams during their assignments and competitions.”
Added the football body: “Additionally, the upgraded facilities will serve as a hub for hosting the association’s activities and events.
“The duration of Phase I is approximately 70 days, and efforts are being made to ensure timely completion while adhering to the highest standards of quality.
“Meanwhile, documentation for Phase II of the project is already underway. This next phase will see the construction of a standard technical centre and football pitches.”
Fifa Forward projects manager Zimbabwe Kudzai Chitima expressed gratitude to Fifa for the support rendered towards the initiative.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association expresses its gratitude to Fifa for its unwavering support through the Fifa Forward Programme, which has been instrumental in making this project a reality,” he said.
“We remain committed to fostering the growth and development of football in Zimbabwe, and the rehabilitation of the Zifa Village is a testament to this commitment.”
