TELONE . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (4) 6

BIKITA MINERALS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .(1) 1

AN all-impressive TelOne injected a new breath of life in their bid to retain their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League status after putting up a five-star performance to smash Bikita Minerals 6-1 at Ascot Stadium yesterday.

The Gweru-based team had struggled to win at home, but they finally got their second home win this year as they fired from all cylinders to harvest six goals.

It could have been more, had they been accurate in all the chances they got.

Washington Navaya and Nkosiyabo Masilela notched a brace each, with Trust Nyabinde and Dubai Zivanai scoring a goal apiece.

Ultimately, The WiFi Boys are now 14th on the table, out of the relegation zone with 29 points on their tally, with a superior goal difference over Green Fuel.

Coach Herbert Maruwa was elated with the win.

“I’m happy with the result. I’ve been saying it that goals will come and I am happy with the progress,” Maruwa said.

“On a good day, we can score more than five goals and today was the day. Now we need to make sure that we maintain and keep moving away from the relegation zone.”

His counterpart Arnold Jani was livid with how his men applied themselves throughout the match.

“All I can say is that we lost, a heavy defeat, but sometimes as a coach, you may not know what will be happening in the camp. Like today, honestly this is not the way we play,” Jani said.

TelOne made a whirlwind start to the match with Navaya on target in the first minute as Bikita Minerals were yet to settle.

The Bikita Minerals defence line proved to be their weakest point. Trust Nyabinde doubled The Wi-Fi Boys’ lead on the 15th minute mark.

Three minutes later, Masilela made it three with a free header from a cross delivered by Navaya.

In the 36 minute, Bikita Minerals pulled one back through Tinashe Ruzive with a rasping effort from outside the box.

But TelOne restored their three-goal cushion, with Masilela completing a brace in the 40th minute.

They continued from where they left when the second half resumed, with Navaya scoring his second goal after intercepting a back pass before slotting the ball home.

Zivanai scored their sixth goal in the referee’s optional time. It was his first Premiership goal.

In Chisumbanje, Green Fuel maintained their unbeaten home record this season after they held former champions FC Platinum to a one-all draw.

Collins Duwa gave the hosts the lead after just nine minutes before Jarrison Selemani restored parity late in the half.

Referee Jimmy Makwanda had another good showing at centre showing his experience and is easily become a strong contender for referee of the year award.
