Highlanders have given coach Baltemar Brito the green-light to negotiate with Zifa for the Warriors' job after the national football governing body approached the club on Thursday.
Club chief executive officer Ronald Moyo confirmed the Bulawayo giants received correspondence from the Zifa normalisation committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa.
Moyo said Highlanders have okayed the conversations going on between Zifa and Brito.
"The club responded, giving Zifa the go-ahead to have a conversation with the coach but as a matter of clarity, the coach is contracted (to Highlanders) and that has been made known to Zifa and I believe even the coach has communicated that and Zifa acknowledges that in their letter. Whatever conversations they are having it is with those parameters. They know they are engaging someone who is contracted," Moyo said.
If Zifa engages Brito, it will be on an interim basis, probably the length of the normalisation committee's tenure before sanity is restored and new elections are held at Zifa.
Norman Mapeza of FC Platinum and Chicken Inn's Joey Antipas have been simultaneously in charge of the Warriors and their respective clubs in the past.
