CHICKEN Inn attacking midfielder Calum English-Brown will have to up his game if he is to make it to the side’s starting line-up, coach Prince Matore has said.
Grabbed from relegated Gweru-based WhaWha at the beginning of the season, English-Brown was the target of several clubs, including Dynamos before settling for the GameCocks.
He has less than 60 minutes under his belt in the past 16 games, featuring for a few minutes in the 3-1 win over Yadah at Baobab last weekend.
Chicken Inn host Hwange at Luveve tomorrow and Matore said the former German side Eintracht Norderstedt and Young Warriors midfielder is part of the GameCocks’ 25-member squad eligible for tomorrow’s game but he has to fight for the jersey.
“He is training well. He is fighting for his place. The good thing is that he came to a club where there is competition; he understands that and is working hard. He played a few minutes in the last game but has to fight because there is no coach who doesn’t want a super player who will bring miracles, score goals, and create chances for the team. He is part of the team and ready to play any time,” Matore said.
The coach is wary of the threat that Hwange poses, but happy that his team has improved its conversion rate.

“It's good for the team that we have started scoring because in most of our games, we have been creating chances but were not scoring. We are happy (against Yadah) we converted our chances. We know Hwange is a good team with very aggressive play and they have been collecting points home and away, so it is going to be a tough match,” he said.
Before the weekend win, Chicken Inn had last won before last month’s break when they beat Black Rhinos at Luveve and went on to lose to FC Platinum and Dynamos and drew against Green Fuel before beating Yadah in their last game.
At the weekend, Hwange played a goalless draw with FC Platinum at the Colliery after a 1-1 draw away to Black Rhinos and a home win against ZPC Kariba.
The GameCocks sit on position six with 25 points while Hwange is on position 10 with 20 points from 16 games.
