SUPPORT Unit Women ended the weekend unbeaten with wins out of three in the Harare Volleyball Premier League Championship bracket matches played at the University of Zimbabwe courts.
The Eagles' day of recompense was the holy day, Sunday in which they stunned log leaders Harare City Women and UZ Wolves Women in identical 3-2 scoreline.
Support Unit first beat Manyame Falcons 3-0 on Saturday, and with two fixtures remaining against the Lady Citizens and the Students, the police side produced one of heir best performances as they cruised to two victories.
They first played UZ Wolves and were the first out of the blocks winning the first set 25-22. Support Unit came into the next set full of energy and UZ Wolves looked like they surrendered the match falling 25-10.
It looked like Support Unit were heading for a 3-0 routing, but UZ Wolves would not go down without a fight. The Wolves displayed a powerful performance in the third set powering their way to a 25-9 set win. From there, Wolves were back in the game. They took the game to Support Unit and they got their second successive set victory to throw the game into the decider.
Support Unit looked like they had given their opponents a lifeline, and in such circumstances, confidence wanes. But to their credit, Support Unit dug deep and set themselves for a great victory. It was a victory many had not anticipated before the game.

Facing another giant of the game. It looked like they would go into the match, play, and accept whatever Harare City were going to do to them. The Lady Citizens had won four consecutive games against the Citizens going into this match and convincingly too.
The first set told a story of a team that had too much respect for their opponents. It looked like another routine victory was on the way for City as they posted an emphatic 25-12 set win. The first blood was oozing from Support Unit, and their faces told it all.
When the cops looked like they were down, the Citizens relaxed for Support Unit to seize control and in no time the scoreboard read 1-1 after a 25-11 set win by Support Unit.
They replied in spectacular fashion. The third set saw Support Unit at one point leading by five points, but City refused to be cowed and they turned the set into their favor. The set went to the wire, with City eventually clinching it 28-26.
The stage was set for an explosive fourth set, it was a do-or-die for the police side as the Citizens led 2-1. Support Unit did not disappoint, as they forced the match into a decider, clinching the set 25-21. The stage was set for an explosive decider, and from the first whistle Support Unit raced to a 4-0 lead. City tried a come-back, but Support Unit kept the lead decent till they got to eight points against six. Support Unit kept their distance, and City pursuing. Support Unit suddenly turned into beasts, and 15-11 they won. They had done the unthinkable, two victories over UZ Wolves and Harare City.
There are times when players surprise themselves, and this was such a day for Support Unit. A victory over UZ Wolves and Harare City on the same day is a day to savor. The Eagles goring Wolves in their own territory, flooring the Citizens in the City they own. What a feat, what a wonderful performance from the policewomen.
