La’Diva Million

UNITED Kingdom-based Zimbabwean songstress La’Diva Million (formerly known as Letwin Leila Berebende) said she was forced to drop the name Letwin — inherited from her aunt — following a series of misfortunes in her life.

The songbird told NewsDay Life & Style that she decided to dump the name and opted for other names given to her at birth.

“I was born Leila La’Diva. My father’s name is Million. Then my father’ sister, Letwin, who by the way I love so much, named me after her,” she said.

“A lot happened while growing up, until the time I relocated to the UK; still being known to everyone as Letwin. The other names from birth were forgotten.”

The singer said she had to pray and fast about her situation without elaborating on the challenges she was facing, after which she decided to go by her original name.

“I cried out to God. I was in despair. After spending time in prayer, I reclaimed my original name, Leila La’Diva Million. It’s not that I came up with a new identity. It has always been the original,” she said.

Recently, La’Diva divided opinion on social media platforms after she posted “saucy” pictures of herself, which saw some critics describing her as an attention seeker.

La’Diva, however, said she was promoting her new line of lingerie and merchandise.

“If you want to make a living with music, you are going to need to engage in a lot of hustle that has nothing to do with sounds as music alone doesn’t pay bills, hence I have engaged myself into different kinds of businesses, including LA’DIVA designer lingerie and its merchandising, launching on June 19,” she said.

La’Diva, as she is popularly known on stage, also hinted on her love life, saying a new love album was brewing.

“I am not searching . . . I have a fiancé and his name is Eugene Makuta. He is my Papi. He believes in me, faultless. I believe he is my purest love. When I am thinking I do not deserve him, he also believes he doesn’t deserve me. I am not perfect, yet he always holds me close. He makes me really happy. I need him more than he does, at this point in my life,” she said.
