COMMUNITY newspapers and radio stations have been urged to engage in partnerships in order to cut down on costs and to have a greater impact on communities.
Zimbabwe National Editors Forum national co-ordinator Njabulo Ncube said this while addressing a workshop on community engagement in Chinhoyi at the weekend.
The workshop was also attended by Chinhoyi town council staff.
Ncube said instead of competing, community newspapers and radios should pool their scarce financial resources and create viable partnerships.
“Individualism is affecting community media houses,” he said.
Chinhoyi council public relations manager Tichaona Mlauzi, who also addressed the workshop, said council was losing thousands of dollars due to vandalism of sewage pipes He said some residents were destroying sewage pipes in order to harvest sewerage for use as manure in their gardens.
“There is a new trend where some residents are damaging sewage pipes in order to harvest sewage to use in their urban gardens,” Mlauzi said.
