Police confirmed that one person died on the spot at the intersection of Basch Street and 11th Avenue yesterday afternoon. According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred around 1pm.

Ncube, who was 33, was travelling with two other people, namely Nkululeko Sibanda, a fellow journalist, and Ntombikayise Nkala in a blue Mercedes Benz on their way to an MDC rally at Stanley Square when their car was sideswiped by a Mazda 323.

When our Bulawayo Bureau crew arrived at the scene, there was a pool of blood and pieces of shattered glass all over the spot.

A crowd of visibly shaken people, including MDC party supporters, had gathered around the scene.

MDC parliamentary candidate for Magwegwe constituency Sindiso Mazibisa could not hold back his tears as he described Ncube as a friend who had been with him through thick and thin.

“I have been with Busani as a colleague and a friend and I simply cannot believe that he is gone,” he said.

Mazibisa said it was hard to accept the tragedy and he was still in a state of shock.

According to the owner of the Mazda vehicle, Wanai Mhaka, Ncube’s vehicle was speeding and skipped a red robot.

An MDC campaign manager for Mazibisa said the accident was shocking and suspicious considering that Ncube’s house had been gutted by fire two times in the last three weeks set by unknown people.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the accident and said investigations were underway.
