THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has revealed that its biometric voter registration (BVR) central database will be kept at its headquarters in Harare, ending months of speculation among opposition parties who feared the main server could be tampered with if its location was not known.

Zec chairperson Justice Rita Makarau said the server would be kept at the board’s headquarters.
“Yes, we will house the server and the issues,” she said.
MDC-T secretary for elections Murwisi Zwizwai told NewsDay yesterday that Zec had assured them that the servers would not be tampered with.
Zwizwai raised concern over voter registration certificates which he said were not in logical sequence raising fears that the servers could be preloaded with ghost voters.

But Makarau dismissed the claims, saying: “Polling stations are not yet out. What we have are provisional polling centres which can be changed at the end of voter registration. Depending on the number of registered voters we can actually increase polling stations, so it is still premature for us to release the list.”
