Alexander Mwembe (38) and Jealous Moomba (44) were convicted on their own plea of guilty when they appeared before Hwange magistrate Rosemary Dube on Friday.

Prosecutor Paidamoyo Makuvaza said on November 9, the police and Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority rangers received a tip-off that the pair was in the business of selling tusks.

They approached them that night, posing as potential buyers and requested to see the tusks before negotiating payment terms.

The court heard that Mwembe fished out one tusk weighing 3,9kg and valued at $990, leading to the pair’s arrest.
