National police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi, confirmed the accident, saying it involved a Honda Fit car and a haulage truck.
“I can confirm four people aboard a Honda Fit car have been confirmed dead. They were heading towards Ngundu when the accident occurred,” Nyathi said.
Preliminary investigations showed that the smaller car encroached into the path of the haulage truck and got trapped under the trailer.
A cross-border truck driver who was at the accident scene said: “It was horrific, it was not a sight to see.”

The entire Beitbridge-Harare Highway has been labelled a death trap because of the rising number of traffic accidents recorded each year, with motorists blaming most of the accidents to the poor state of the road. The road is a commercial artery for most southern African countries which use South African seaports and rely on importing goods from the highly-industrialised country.
