A 48-YEAR-OLD teacher at a school near Marondera, who fondled a Grade Six pupil was on Wednesday slapped with a 15-month jail term by magistrate Arnold Maburo.
The teacher, who has since been fired, denied the allegations, but was nailed due to overwhelming evidence against him.
Seven months of the sentence were suspended on condition of good behaviour, while the remaining eight months were converted to 280 hours of community service at High Glen Police Station in Harare.
According to court papers, sometime in September last year, at around 4pm, the accused called the pupil to his classroom and ordered her to pack his bread in a plastic bag stashed in the storeroom. He followed the juvenile into the storeroom and fondled her.
The juvenile later told her friends about the incident before alerting her parents, who then escorted her to file a police report.
