ZPC spokesperson Fadzai Musvetu confirmed the accident, but could not divulge more details.
“I cannot say much at the moment except to say that we are still investigating the matter. This accident happened very early in the morning and we are still to get the details,” Musvetu said.
However, sources told NewsDay that one of the employees, Oswald Budzi, was battling for his life at Parirenyatwa Hospital after he sustained serious body and facial burns.
The sources, who declined to be named, said the other two workers, identified as Bernard Karirangombe and Mabara Zano, escaped with minor injuries with one of them already discharged from hospital. The three were allegedly injured when Boiler 9 at Power Station 2 exploded, releasing steam measuring more than 600 degrees Celcius.
