HARARE, Mar.25 (NewsDayLive) - The Community Water Alliance (CWA) has launched a campaign to stop the privatisation of the local authority.
For years, Harare residents have faced numerous difficulties in accessing clean and reliable water supplies, with the city council blaming obsolete equipment, shortage of chemicals and non-payment for services delivered.
The city's water crisis has been a longstanding issue, with residents often going without water for days.
The CWA's campaign comes after the City of Harare announced plans to engage private players, Helcraw Electrical and Lyson Technologies, in water treatment and supply.
In a statement released on Tuesday, CWA national coordinator Hardlife Mudzingwa reminded the City of Harare that it had no authority to enter into contractual agreements with private water service providers before amendment of the Urban Councils Act.
"We are more than convinced that the battle is a walkover," Mudzingwa said.
